“Art is a journey of a free soul.”

-AlevOguz

What is true success?

It can be different for each individual. For me, true success is to make my life more productive, life full of glory and happiness to myself as well to others. For this, we should have a particular way of living our lives.

Although, we artists are free souls, but we all need a direction to steer our creative self. Instead of living an uncontrolled life, we can live a controlled one by which we can give direction to our existence. If we want our lives to be more enriching and to give us certain results, we should start focusing on our inner consciousness. For making our mind more productive and creative, meditation is a necessary habit that an artist should inbuilt.

Inculcate the spiritual habits

Practising breathing exercises regularly is very helpful in enhancing our ability to broaden our vision. Here vision I am talking about is to see things around with a different perspective. That’s what we artist do. God has gifted us that sense of seeing hidden beauty in every creature, living or non-living, only we have to discover that essence in us.

I have been practising meditation and pranayam for many years now. Pranayam in my routine includes simple exercises and energization exercises, which helps in cleaning all the blockages in the mind and also smoothens the flow of energy. Through the regular practice of pranayam, we can get rid of all the negative thoughts in our mind. As after practicing this, our mind and soul are clean and pure, now we can welcome fresh and creative thoughts inside. For this we do meditation. As part of my routine, I do relaxation techniques, which help in visualising my thoughts. Pranayam and meditation are like rituals for me, which I follow regularly. It has helped me in visualizing my vision of life.

Before starting your new art work, you just have to sit in a straight and relaxed posture focusing on your breathe. Let your breathe flow naturally, filling your mind with freshness. You will start feeling refreshing and your can now able to visualize clearly what you want to paint. In my case, whatever I have to paint, I visualize that image in a meditative state. This helps me in energising my thought process. When I feel completely relaxed and clear about my ideas, I slowly open my eyes and start to paint.

There is a deep connection between creativity and spirituality. As they come from within us. They both are about going deep within. They both are about inner peace. They both have the power to heal. As it is said for an art,

“ Art has a power to heal old wounds.

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”

- Pablo Picasso

For this, only thing we have to do is inculcate the spiritual habits. There have been many artists, who in the process of painting their work, they travelled to the subconscious state. In this state, they were able to create masterpieces.

This for an artist, mental stability is very important. Yet he should have the power to spread his vision and go beyond reality. Mind is always moving like a spinning wheel. It creates an illusion of reality. This illusion can only be in an artist’s mind. We have that power to show to the world that the things beyond reality are possible.

“Art-making is an extension of the kind of spiritual process that has the power to connect us to the world beyond reality.” - Hyon Gyon

FLOW WITH YOUR CREATIVE SPIRIT

All art forms have the power to contribute to our spiritual wealth and development. For example : listening to any music, is like medicine to our soul. It has the capability of filling us with emotions sometimes sadness or sometimes with great joy.

Rhythmical and repetitive dance and chanting hymns (bhajans and other such songs), by powerfully harmonizing the left and right halves of the brain have similar effect that of meditation. It forms a powerful bridge between a particular form of art and spiritual experience, thus bonding them together.Similarly, while filling colors to a painting or give a form to a sculpture, we experience different emotions in a single second. That’s where we directly connect to our spiritual being.

Although this state of mind is quite difficult to achieve but regularly practicing and making it a habit, helps a lot.

So in order to understand your true nature, your mind must acquire certain stillness. To attain this stillness and examine the nature of mind, its movement must be ceased. This can only be possible when we start focusing on our thoughts. For this we should practice meditation and pranayam. The sense of spiritually will be visible in our art piece.
